If you threaten (read: ‘ask’) the yellow press to not release (read: ‘postpone’) a little something of yourself, be honest and tell the truth, up front. Apologies excepted — more or less, media-wise. Do not wait several weeks, though, it might backfire.
If your apologies, weeks later, just seem to be sincere, leave it. Seriously, leave it! Furthermore, if you victimize yourself (such as playing the humanity or family card), you are going to be on a possibly derailed train. Being a person of interest, there is no escape from it; but usually you’ve chosen this life on your own, right, derailing included?
Hire a highly competent team of media-savvy communication experts, lawyers just in the background (and not as front-players!). Is that so hard? With a few 10k per month, or even a federal agency, this whole matter doesn’t seem un-doable, does it?
Sadly, it does. Pathetically, even.
