Dr. Serious was at service the other day. I felt that kind of tension right from the very beginning when he introduced himself. A steady but not too firm handshake as if closing a deal up front. Silently, the two of us walked into his room with not appealing but standard equipment.
Inside I lost my jacket, my scarf on a piece of furniture. I was a bit nervous as it was the first time we met. He came right to the point, putting aside the usual little chat before, saying he would be preparing, he left room. My heart was pacing but I managed to calm down myself. I scrutinized the room and wondered, with a smile, if it had been re-decorated since the 80s (or ever).
He reappeared and instantly I could tell he was ready. The inevitable was near: the poking.
It hurt a little during the first one or two times, I felt adrenaline pumping through my body. But it got smoother as time was passing by. My heart rate came back to normal as the whole thing was getting to an end. To my own surprise, afterwards, we chatted quite some time.
At the reception desk I made an appointment in three months’ time and paid the fee I was charged for.
