Nerd Alert: Tiny Core Linux

A couple of weeks (months, actually) ago, I discovered Tiny Core Linux. Yesterday, I installed it on a USB drive (with some extensions, like a browser [currently running Chromium 13.0.782.112]).

Just now, I am running this very little linux (I guess the name explains all, anyway), and in fact, writing this very post. (I'm excited, I don't know about you!).

I plugged-in the USB drive, booted, and 10s later... I have, indeed, had a fully functional Linux running. I don't miss anything so far (as far as 'usual' tasks are concerned). It is great: free, fast, and feasible (yes: I hunted for an alliteration, sorry! That's the excitement talking, I hate artificially made up alliterations, too ;-)).

I can now boot it from anywhere I want (if booting from USB is possible) and find the exact environment (as of now, in fact). Yes, changes to files (including creating this one; I am just using the vi, by the way) are deleted upon shutdown. (That's one of the things I like most, among others. But there's also a backup option, mostly for configuration files.)

P.S. This tiny linux shuts down in less than 2s.
